Victim Quick Response Program
has been established by the Ministry of the Attorney General to provide timely assistance to victims of the most violent crimes. The program comprises three components that may provide financial assistance for:
- Short-term immediate Counseling Services;
- Funding for immediate Emergency Expenses in the following five categories:
- Crime Scene Clean up.
- Emergency Home repairs to secure premises for the immediate safety of victims.
- Transportation Costs for the most economical and practical means of travel for one family member to identify a victim of homicide or, to support a victim who has suffered serious injury as a result of violent crime.
- Emergency Child/Dependent Care
- Emergency Accommodation and Meals
Funding will be made available only where the victim has reported a violent Criminal Code Offence to the police, or in cases of domestic violence or sexual assault, to a domestic violence shelter, sexual assault centre, hospital or agency providing services to victims of domestic violence and/or sexual assault. Crimes include offences that lead to physical injury of a victim as well as property offences that compromise victim safety in cases of domestic violence, domestic assault and hate crime.
