Expenses and Funding
Eligible victims may apply for the following:
Counseling Service – Where publicly funded counseling services are not available short-term, early intervention counseling services will be provided for a maximum of ten sessions not to exceed a maximum of $1,000.00 per occurrence
Financial Assistance for Funeral Expenses will be considered in homicide cases only. Approvals will provide for a maximum of $5,000.00 and the Ontario Victim Services Secretariat will provide direct payments to the selected funeral service provider.
Where funding sources are not available in the immediate aftermath of a violent crime, emergency expense funding may be provided to enable Victim Services to assist eligible victims in five emergency categories. Approvals will provide for a combined maximum expenditure not to exceed $1,000.00 per occurrence.
Crime Scene Cleanup - for costs incurred in crime scene cleanup where the use of a licensed/specialized company to clean up bodily fluids is required.
Emergency Home Repairs - to secure premises for immediate safety of victims. Examples include:
- Installation of plywood sheets over broken windows.
- Replacement of broken door locks
- Repair/replace primary telephone or cell phone if existing one is broken
- Repair cut telephone, gas, electric lines
- Reconnect cut electricity or gas lines
- Install deadbolt or bars to enhance safety.
Transportation Costs – for the most economical and practical means of travel for one family member to identify a homicide victim or, support a victim with a serious injury as a result of a violent crime
Emergency Childcare/Dependent Care for elderly or special needs dependents – to enable a family member to identify a victim of homicide or to support a victim who has suffered serious injury as a result of a violent crime
Emergency Accommodation and Meals – where there are no secure housing options
